BECOME A HOST WITH HOMEPORT

omePort helps international students and families find carefully vetted host families near U.S. schools.

HomePort places international students with vetted families near U.S. schools. You provide a room and a routine — we handle the matching, the support, and everything in between.

WHY HOST

Hosting is an Exchange, Not a Transaction.

Families host for different reasons. Most say it's some mix of these three.
1
A new perspective at your table
Your student brings a different language, holidays, and habits into daily life — and usually picks up a few of yours too.
2
A monthly stipend
You receive a stipend for the student's stay, paid by direct deposit. The amount depends on your location.
3
Support you don't do alone
A local HomePort coordinator is assigned to your match from day one, for questions big and small.

Hosting FAQs

How long until a student is placed in my home?

Once your inquiry, application, and interview are complete, matching begins right away. It can happen quickly or take a few weeks, depending on demand in your area.

Can I still host if I have a pet?

Yes, just note it on your application. Some students love pets and some are allergic or wary of them, so we make sure you're matched accordingly.

How much is the monthly stipend?

It varies by location. Your local coordinator will confirm the exact amount for your area during the application process.

What happens if a student leaves early?

If a student's stay ends mid-period, your stipend is prorated: the monthly rate divided by 30 days, rounded up to the nearest dollar.

Do I need to speak another language?

No. Most students come to build their English, so everyday conversation at home is part of the experience.
